The Little Things Make a Difference
There are two types of people in the world of video games. There are gamers and then there's everyone else. Gamers can blend in with the crowd. There might never be a distinguishing look that sets them apart. They can be CEO's of major corporations or the car pool mom at the local elementary school. The difference becomes apparent when game consoles are discussed.
The non-gaming folk cannot see spending hours sitting glued to a television screen, whereas the gamers are readily discussing the merits of one generation of gaming equipment with the next. What is not apparent to the outside world becomes a matter of intense discussion within the gaming community. Take for example, Microsoft's gaming console the Xbox and its next generation console the Xbox 360.
The Xbox was — and still is a — phenomenal gaming machine. The Live packages offered the ability play online and compete with other players. The graphics were incredible — even without the high-definition television set they were made for. The Xbox 360 offered far richer pictures, some with details that even defined water droplets against pavement.
Here is a comparison of the Xbox and the Xbox 360:
Xbox / Xbox 360
CPU: 733 MHz Intel Celeron / CPU: 3.2 GHz PPC Tri-Core Xenon
Internal HDD and memory card / 20 GB Hard Drive and memory cards
GPU: 233 MHz NVIDIA / GPU: 500 MHz ATI Xenos
Resolutions: 480i, 576i, 480p, 720p, 1080i / Resolutions: 1080p plus numerous supports
The original Xbox versus the Xbox 360 comes down to a battle of speed, graphics and storage. Less serious gamers might not want to spend the additional cash on a newer version if they are perfectly happy with the older system. The caveat in this move, however, comes with the Xbox 360 games being unable to be played on the old system. There will be a cease in production of Xbox games, as new game designers want to embrace the powerful image system of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 games will have a higher definition and ability to perform more tasks than Xbox games.
