Finding the Right Game

Microsoft was ready this time when it came for the release of the Xbox 360.
When November of 2005 rolled around, Microsoft brought its proverbial "A" game to the show. They knew the vast appeal of action/adventure games, so they were ready with sequels to their best selling games. "Call of Duty 2," "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter" and "Gears of War" sold millions of copies and were 3/5 of the most popular games. Fans flocked to stores where games and consoles were sold, not only to test the demo versions but to purchase the games. Fantasy games such as "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" were immensely popular, as were fighting games like "Dead or Alive 4."

Graphics and player interaction add to the appeal of games that offer hours of playing time. It is no longer a matter of sitting down and breezing through levels; many of the console games now have sophisticated artificial intelligence formerly found only in computer games. This artificial intelligence can adapt game play to the specific player's abilities and thus make the game more challenging. Another great feature found on most games are "easter eggs." No, these are not the colorful, hard-boiled eggs found hidden in the grass for Easter. These are special, secret features that are unlocked either through special codes or by defeating certain levels of game play.

Regardless of what type of game you seek, the Xbox 360 has one. If nothing else appeals, be sure to watch for the debut of one of the most anticipated game releases: "Halo 3." If there were ever an impressive game designed to showcase a video gaming console's ability, it would be this one. The Xbox 360's game showcase is one to be envied and will be able to make a long run against Sony's Playstation 3 and even Nintendo's Wii. The 360 will continue to stand apart with its custom gaming, graphics and accessories.

You Have the System…Now What?

As the title implies, simply having an Xbox 360 system is not just enough. A game console without a game is pretty much an expensive paper weight. It looks nice from the outside, but looks just are not enough. If the 360 was bought on a whim or as a gift, you'll need the inside scoop on what is available. Confused about what you really need? Just sit right back and read on for the inside scoop on the current market.

The best advice anyone could give would be for the novice gamer to go take a look at an entertainment store or the electronic section of the local mega mart. There is usually a demo set for the Xbox 360 featuring its most popular games. It will seem like a foreign concept initially, but it's a great way to figure out what type of games are the most appealing.

There is a nasty side effect some people have to first-person shooter games. It's a touch of vertigo or otherwise known as the "car sick" effect. The game's horizon line is dependent on how well the person operating the controller has a steady hand. The controller is very sensitive to movement and the ability to go up, down, side to side and at angles can give anyone a queasy stomach. If this happens to you, give it some time and practice.

Racing games are a very entertaining way to learn the ins and outs of video games. The game controls are relatively simple and the feeling of vertigo is not quite as bad as other games on the market. If sports are a passion, there are some great athletic games. Football, basketball, hockey and even skate boarding are immensely popular, though seem to be marketed heavily towards the male population of the gaming world. Women gamers are a small minority in the demographics but are quickly gaining in number. Game designers lean more towards games where design is the root of the adventure. Players can design anything from amusement parks to entire worlds.

No matter what piques your interest, there is probably a game out there that will spark a desire to grab that controller. The Xbox 360's game library is vast and even has games for those ten and under. Being a novice bring with it a sense of adventure in finding out what game is most appealing to you. Step in, try it out, rent it, borrow it?just get out there and turn that paperweight into the ultimate gaming experience. You will be surprised at how much fun it is!
