Xbox 360 Live - Get Your Xbox 360 Live Membership
In 2002, a tradeshow revolutionized the console-based gaming industry. It was not a foreign concept. It had been around for years in the personal computer realm, but it had not reached the console: It was Xbox Live. Today there is Xbox 360 Live.
Despite the fact that Xbox Live was not available until a year after the console was first released to the public and the initial game selection was limited, the gaming world's enthusiasm could not be dampened. When production for the next generation Xbox began, there was no delay in adding the Live component.
Xbox 360 offers a top-of-the-line gaming bundle that comes with the Live starter kit and a headset through which the gamer can voice chat. For serious gamers, this means instant communication with teammates anywhere in the world.
Males make up the biggest demographic for Live, since games that utilize this feature are typically the "shoot 'em up" variety.
The age range of the participants may surprise you. In a group of men and women spanning the world, one or two members might be the stereotypical teenage males, but the others are middle-aged adults.
In addition, Xbox 360 Live offers something different for the online gamer: Silver. Xbox Live is generally a paid subscription. It allows online gaming, access to web boards, interaction with other players, as well as the Arcade and Marketplace features.
In contrast, 360's Silver is free and still allows the player access to the boards, Arcade and Marketplace, in addition to the ability to interact with other members. It does not, however, support the multiplayer gaming that is so popular with Live. In order to access that particular function, a subscription to the Gold package is needed.
Along with the ability to speak with other members of the gaming community while playing, Gold also offers video conferencing with its Xbox Live Vision. No other console has this to date.
With over four million subscribers, Live has entrenched itself firmly into the online gaming community, previously reserved for only users of personal computers that played games like "World of Warcraft."
Xbox 360 Live , regardless of the level of subscription service purchased or used, is visionary. The idea of playing a game and speaking with fellow players from around the world is a far cry from the earliest gaming consoles.
Until 360 offers a variety of games that are compatible with the idea of a team system, there will be members of the community that are not interested. It might not be for everyone: for some, the idea of waging military war is the ultimate in gaming, whereas others still like to build their little worlds and play solitaire.
